Dubai - Based Drydocks World is chasing new contracts in Indonesia with talks ongoing on potential projects for the country's coastguard and navy.The maritime services provider said its chairman, Khamis Juma Buamim, had held "highly productive discussions" with the Indonesian Defence Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro.
The talks covered a wide ranging issues "with a primary focus on potential partnership on projects for the coastguard and navy", news agency WAM reported.
Buamim said: "We have tremendous experience in servicing the maritime industry with leading edge solutions and are confident that we can offer great value and support to the Indonesian government on naval projects.
"We are interested in knowledge and technology transfer to enable the design and construction of increasingly sophisticated high-end customized vessels."
A memorandum of understanding has been signed by Drydocks World and PAL Indonesia aimed at mutual co-operation in "shipbuilding, general engineering and other relevant areas".
The scope of the MoU also includes maintenance of oil and gas equipment and offshore structures.
In September, Drydocks World said it had signed an agreement with Privinvest Holding, which has construction and design facilities in the Mediterranean, the Gulf, Germany, France and the UK.
The two companies said they envisage a joint venture that will provide ship maintenance, upgrade and refit in addition to other associated services including specialised technical training within the Gulf region for mega yachts and naval vessels.
The memorandum of understanding also says they will work to create a partnership to build warships and support vessels in South East Asia and Indonesia in particular.
